Banking Assistant Database Administrator

Description
Reports to: IT manager

Supervises: N/A

External relations: Core Banking System and other systems vendors, LHL,

Internal relations: Letshego Tanzania Head office and Branches, sisters companies.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLES

  • Core Banking Administration
  • Installing, configuring and upgrading the database server and application tools
  • Database maintenance Monitoring through dedicated tools
  • Basic CBS administration tasks because he/she will be a super user
  • Report writing and testing
  • Ensure End of day process and backup is taken as per bank IT Policies in place
  • Creation of new products, setup, testing , apply new procedures and reporting writing and design.
  • Monitoring of the production and DR database and kill database locks when observed
  • Day to day attending different database tasks including: Creating, modification and developing new Repwiz reports, modification of Data Quality Check files, Extractions of information to various departments in a bank and BOT, credit reference, periodic mapping of CBS files and providing end-user support to users from various applications.
  • Together with Database team assisting in development of other categories of reports (Birt and Running different SQL scripts which already validated by IT Manger)
  • Make sure the core banking database is daily ready for starting business
  • Monitoring and control all e-channels applications and make sure all are running efficiently
  • Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system.
  • Modifying the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers.
  • Enrolling users and maintaining system security
  • Ensuring compliance with database vendor license agreement
  • Controlling and monitoring user access to the database
  • Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database
  • Planning for backup and recovery of database information
  • Maintaining archived data.
  • Backing up and restoring databases files.
  • Contacting database vendor and run periodic technical support calls.
  • Generating various reports by querying from database as per the business need
  • Managing and monitoring data replication.

CORE BANKING TRAINING

Provide training on CBS and other applications to end-users
Act as a super User to CBS

CORE BANKING HELPDESK

The ADBA should act as the hub for maintaining a quality helpdesk support between business and technical resources;
He/ She will use dedicated helpdesk tool to support user calls as per SLA
The DBA will always keep records of all changes happening in a bank.

SKILLS AND EDUCATION

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree preferred in information technology, computer science or any 4 years related degree in Information Systems.
  • Certifications: Any of Oracle Database Certification preferred: OCA, OCP is important. Oracle: MySQL Database Developer, MySQL database administrator is MUST
  • Microsoft SQL Server awareness is advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of database experience, in addition to educational requirements.

  • General understanding of storage technologies and networking
  • General understanding of routine maintenance, recovery, and handling failover of a database.
  • High ability of being able to communicate well with other departments, including
  • Understand Operations terms, needs and convert them into MIS.
  • Excellent at problem-solving, time-management, Planning and organizing
  • Able to work well under pressure and under self-supervision
  • Strong Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage Other junior staffs (management skills)
  • Ability to harmonize team and get good results
  • Ability to set deadline and provide Plan
